Indiana University Seeks Summer Host Families for Chinese Flagship Institute

Indiana University’s Flagship Chinese Institute Is Looking for Host Families!

Chinese are families needed to host small groups of 5-6 students for two Saturdays in June and July.

June 14:  Host families visit, begin around 12 pm

Interact with our students (American) in Chinese and help them learn about Chinese culture through sharing meals and dumpling making (materials provided and food cost covered by FCI).

July 26: Picnic with Host Families, begin around 12 pm

Interact with our students (American) in Chinese, share Chinese food, and have a fun picnic with FCI students, teachers and staffs (food cost covered by FCI).

Indiana University’s Flagship Chinese Institute is also looking for native Chinese speakers who are willing to give presentations on cultural traditions and customs (music, festivals, calligraphy, arts, games, etc.). Indiana University is Recruiting Chinese Language Tutors

Indiana University is hiring tutors for its Chinese Flagship Center

Job Description:

Meet with Flagship students once or twice per week (preferably twice) for one-on-one tutoring sessions lasting one hour. Focus on developing students’ oral-aural skills, providing assistance with reading and writing only as needed. Conduct sessions entirely in Chinese.

The IU Chinese Flagship Center will provide tutor training in the first week of the Fall 2014 semester.

Qualifications:

Volunteer Tutors are expected to:

  • Be native Chinese speakers  OR close to native level;
  • Be currently enrolled at IU Bloomington as an undergraduate or graduate student OR have completed at least a Bachelor’s degree; junior and senior undergraduates and graduate students preferred, sophomore undergraduate may be considered.
  • Be high-achieving students in academic disciplines;
  • Be mature, responsible, and willing to help others;
  • Be committed to tutor for at least one semester;
  • Be punctual and maintain a relatively fixed schedule throughout the semester;
  • Hold tutorial sessions in an academic space.

Volunteer tutors with excellent performance will be strong candidates for future paid discipline mentor positions at the Chinese Flagship Center.
